About your system
The system is not new technology, it is Established technology, which has been advanced to a new level!
Thermodynamic and heat Pump technology has been around for some 10 years and has primarily been used for domestic hot water heating. Heat pump technology has primarily been used for central heating and domestic hot water. The problem has always been that it required a large amount of electricity to operate. This is because all previous heat pumps continuously run at a high electricity consumption, per hour, regardless of heating water or central heating and regardless of the temperatures required. They do what they are supposed to do, as long as they are specified and installed correctly, but this old technology would almost certainly double your electricity bill, if not more! Fortunately, things have evolved and we are now able to provide the savings required for Gas users in particular.
Our system will control domestic hot water (DHW) and Central heating independently and for good reason in terms of system sizing and performance. This means no extra electricity cost for DHW, which means it is free once our system has been installed. It also means the running cost for the Central Heating is drastically reduced.
Our system will self-regulate - meaning it will always runs on the lowest amount of electricity required to generate the required heat. Then only asking for assistance for central heating from the boiler in times of extreme weather conditions (below -15 degrees)
Other older heat pumps consume more electricity than ours for both DHW and central heating. For example should you require 11kw of heat per hour then our system might draw in the region of 1kw electric per hour, depending on outside temperature. Other systems would use in the region of 3kw per hour, and will inevitably activate the boiler for help.
Other systems will not save you money. You will continue to buy fuel and you will increase your electricity costs.
Other systems call on your boiler too often. In this case your radiator system will not remain as efficient as you will be generating common central heating issues such as sludge, corrosion and air; thus lowering the overall performance.
We have advanced the R134a refrigerant in order to gasify at lower outside temperature, and have redeveloped and improved the compressor and pump technology. All resulting in higher performance.
How our system works
The Thermodynamic system utilises outside air, and can be located in the airing cupboard, loft or utility room. In fact, we have installed them in various locations and one customer recently built a small cupboard around it, as they did not have space in their airing cupboard.
The air circulates around a refrigerant liquid, which turns to a gas. The gas is then compressed, which makes it extremely hot. It is then transferred to heat water through a heat exchanger. The gas then turns back to a liquid once more and the whole process continues until the water reaches 62 degrees.
Once hot the system activates automatically, when the water cools by 3-5 degrees, meaning it is most unlikely you will ever run out of hot water, as the system includes a 160ltr PLUS stainless steel water cylinder. It uses the same amount of electricity as your boiler to operate, so "free hot water"
The volume of hot water is also very important. The more hot water you have then the more you can use without noticing a drop in temperature. This means our system can be busy heating the water while you continue to run a bath. This is something that our onsite engineers can discuss. We have cylinders up to 260 litres or we can piggyback one of our smaller cylinders to yours. This is never an issue as there are various size options.
Questions are sometimes asked about noise levels – Well in terms of the inside unit it is very quiet and will be no louder than your fridge freezer when in heating mode. In most cases, 99%, the system runs automatically. We also have an option that allows you to set a timer so it only operates during the daytime. We have never had complaints about noise levels.
The Heat Pump for central heating (located outside) works in exactly the same way, but heating your radiators or underfloor system instead of water in a cylinder. Remember a cylinder is designed to keep heat in, and a radiator to send heat out.
The process is run by heating controls and thermostats. The system only activates when required. It is very efficient and importantly self regulates its own performance to minimise the electricity used in order to provide heat. The existing boiler is linked to the system only to assist when ‘our system’ realises it may have to overwork, thus keeping running costs down.
You set the heating temperate required for comfort, and the system then records the flow temperature from the heat pump going into your radiator circuit. It then records the temperature that returns back while also recording the outside air temperature. It can then decide how much energy it needs in order to provide the heat energy that you need. As an example, on start-up it may require 3kw of electricity in order to get to temperature, if it is cold. However, once running it may only require 0.25kw of electricity to maintain the heat. Your radiator system will also operate much more efficiently. It will be cleaned on installation and will stay more than 80-90% cleaner than before. Thus enabling your radiators, or underfloor heating, to produce heat more efficiently. Your thermostatic radiator valves are a very important part of the system. They are a team, and monitor the temperature in the area in which they are located. Setting the correct temperature on the dial is important. When they sense that temperature is achieved it will then effectively turn your radiator off and allow the hot water to pass downstream.
The warmer the hot water returning to the heat pump, the less the heat pump has to do. Simple really but most people do not use TRV’s properly. We want your radiators, or underfloor, to warm up quickly and to work efficiently.
To summarise, you have two systems working as one - both focussing on their respective jobs. They are both sized specifically to minimise expenditure.
No other systems have our technology, therefore companies are unable to control the systems they install.This equates to increased energy costs.
In terms of noise levels
The outside unit will make noise when running in the winter months. Being outside the noise is not very noticeable. Bear in mind it only runs when central heating is required and usually we are indoors at that time. ?To understand the levels, the system will operate between 35 and 67db. The unit complies with strict UK and EU noise regulations.
